Elgar has died

I had to have Elgar put to sleep yesterday.

He had a thyroidectomy last Monday and, for whatever reason – shock, trauma, the lymphoma – he never properly recovered. He was in the vet since Wednesday being treated for hyperglycaemia, calcium deficiencies and failing kidneys; he seemed like he was starting to perk up (I spent Thursday and Friday afternoon and Saturday morning with him) but by Sunday morning his liver had failed. I couldn’t even have him home with me for one last night, it would have been too cruel.

Things you love shouldn’t be allowed to be that fragile.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Elgar was a lucky boy to have such an attentive, caring human and I’m so sorry he was taken from you. It’s the moment of decision that every pet owner dreads in his or her heart. Thinking of you. RIP Elgar. x

Terribly sorry for your loss, Rachel. It’s always heartbreaking to lose a pet…Elgar was a very special cat and so lucky to have you. Take care.

Been playing catchup on twitter and blogroll, so only just seen the news. So sad. I knew him only through your writings and photos but will miss Elgar greatly. Hope you’re doing ok. x
